Korea Unity Press (Special Editorial), January 17, 2008
U. S. presidential election is forthcoming in November this year. It may be possible that Democratic Party would be grasping political power. At present time, presidential nomination game is furiously competitive among presidential candidates of the Democratic Party. The people will be voting on ¡°Super Tuesday¡± on February 5th in 22 states.
What we have in our mind is to support Senator Hillary Clinton as Democratic Party¡¯s presidential candidate. As America has turned into a heaven for immigrants, questions of the security of nation and autogeny are being exposed. The point is to emphasis to have more of persons of American ancestry to participate in national policies.
Among the presidential candidates of the Democratic Party is not of American lineage, and is postnatal lineage. However, he is a naturalized citizen of the United States. There is no dispute on the qualification of being a president.
However, looking the matter at prospective of 21 century in 2008 of American situations, not at the establishment of nation, it would safe to have a person of American lineage to have reign of administration in the nation. Immigrants may pledge to be loyal to America; ¡°Root¡± has its fundamental character in the root of the origin.
In the case of Koreans, although we have acquired American citizenship, all of our attention is focused on Korean peninsula all day long. Blood is thicker than water. There is a Korean proverb that, ¡°arms bend inwards, not outwards.¡± All those immigrants who came to America acquired citizenship with the benefits of American society and good environment. Nevertheless, they always are longing for the country they were born. That is human nature.
Anyway, in certain area of the country immigrant populations are greatly on the rise. With the influence of the legislation of immigration reforms in congress, even America¡¯s law and order has been challenged with street demonstrations. They favor, if possible, their immigrant candidates without any condition to be their leaders in congress. Trend is in that direction. In the future, there is no guarantee that one of the immigrants would not be a president.
Already in certain area of the country, some actions by immigrant populations began to be controversial. Some advertisement in the City praising their country of origin and tend to challenge traditional American society. There may be certain to assume that some undesirable elements may have joined to manipulate and instigate it.
The contention of this editorial is that we have no problem with a black presidential candidate with traditional American blood line, but a person born in a third country who has postnatal lineage and naturalized to challenge the position of president is not welcomed.
We have to keep in mind and reject the notion to have immigrants to grasp America¡¯s administration at the time of continued war against terrorism by persons of non-American lineage.
It is very worrisome that it would be against the composition of the world-wide strategy of America to have the position of presidency of the United States by non-American lineage, let alone the position of ministerial ones. It is very much expected that voters be aware of this point to vote for candidate with American lineage.
