Qualified Full-time ESL Teacher Needed in Gwangju, Korea
Gwangju University is seeking a cheerful, qualified full-time EFL instructor fo a teaching position that runs for one year starting on August 23, 2008. We provide private one-bedroom apartments that are well-furnished with free utilities and good views. You will also be provided with your own office. We try to provide a working atmosphere that is very cordial and conducive for your own teaching style.
Conditions:
1. Monthly salary of two million won.
2. Minimum five weeks of paid vacation.
3. Severance pay after completion of one year contract.
4. Free housing and utilities.
5. A contract renewal bonus of one million won.
Teaching Duties:
Teach both Freshmen English Conversation courses through the university and also English Conversation classes provided by our university-affiliated Foreign Language Center (FLC). All classes are taught in one building and conveniently located near to your apartment (5 minute walk).
Each school semester is 15 weeks long and during each you will be expected to teach approximately 8-10 hours per week of Freshmen English Conversation classes.
There are also 10-week FLC sessions during each semester. The average teaching load during this time period that coincides with the school semester is typically 8-12 hours per week.
Therefore, the combined teaching hours for 10 weeks during the school semester is normally 18-22 hours per week. Of course, during the remaining 5 weeks of the school semester, the teaching load would be 8-10 hours per week.
You will also be required to teach during the 7-week FLC sessions during the winter and summer breaks. The teaching hours during this time are typically 12-16 hours per week.
Altogether, you would be contracted to teach 660 hours for 44 weeks during the teaching term. This averages out to 15 hours per week for those 44 weeks.
We have been very fortunate for the past ten years with a high majority of our teachers opting to renew their contracts after their first year of teaching here.
Qualifications:
Very important: Candidates must have a Master's Degree with at least one year of teaching experience at the college level. Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree must have three years of teaching experience at the college level.
