8:00 am to 8:50 am - Adult classes 9:00 am to 9:50 am - Adult classes 3:30 pm to 4:15 pm - Kids classes 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm - Kids classes 5:30 pm to 6:15 pm - Kids classes (usually middle school) and Adult classes 6:30 pm to 7:20 pm - Adult classes
You will teach a combination of five of those session each day, which adds up to 22 hours per week. Everyone has two children's classes at 3:30 and 4:30, so you need to be comfortable teaching children. From that base, the schedules vary, and if you prefer to have either children or adults, we try to accommodate your wishes when making up the schedule.
Teaching The monthly pay is 2,300,000 Won plus whatever overtime you choose to take on. If you stay over two years, you receive an additional 100,000 Won a month. In children's classes, we have 7- to 16-year olds; adults include college students, professionals, and homemakers. Overtime work (30,000 Won per hour) is available depending on who wants it and whose turn it is. One great thing about working here is the full autonomy you have in teaching your classes in terms of classroom management, assessment, and planning. The only 'requirement' is that we follow a timeline (11-week terms for children, and 7- week terms for adults) and do reports at least once in a 11-week term for children. Children's textbooks (English Time) are taught over two terms (22 weeks), and adult textbooks (Side by Side, World Link, or American Headway) are taught over three terms (21 week) or in some cases 4 terms (28 weeks).
Apartments and Airfare Most of our teachers are staying in the same apartment building (10 minutes on foot from the Center) right now. Partial airfare reimbursements are usually contingent on where you are coming from. You are given the first half of the partial airfare at the start of your contract, and the other half at the end of your contract.
The City One of the great perks of working at Wonkwang is living in Iksan, two hours south of Seoul by KTX or a three-hour drive. Additionally, teachers receive a discount on KTX. It is one of the hubs in the national train network and has excellent bus connections, so it's easy to travel around in Korea if you live here. There are also three national parks and four provincial parks less than 1.5 hours away by bus or car. The city has a great layout and has all the amenities of a large city - Lotte Mart, Home Plus, and E-Mart (all are supermarkets), CGV (shopping, movies and ethnic food), shopping district, outdoor sports parks and several large outdoor markets selling fresh fruits and vegetables year-round. The foreign community in Iksan is excellent, with activities such as Quiz night, soccer, basketball, poker nights, dart league, camping trips and hiking trips regularly taking place. We also have a foreigner-friendly pub in town. Iksan is 30 minutes away from Jeonju, the provincial capital and a larger city that you can visit when you want a change of scenery. This area was also one of the cultural and political centers of Paekje Dynasty, one of the 'Three Kingdoms' that flourished in ancient times (1st thru 7th century) and has many historic sites to see.
