Re.: Employment Search
Please see attached general resume as Microsoft Word documents for my employment search with your school. I have enclosed my updated resume. I have some knowledge of Korean. Currently, I am working for English Channel Institute in Seoul, Korea teaching English to adults.
Briefly, I am an intermediate level civil-geotechnical engineer with 5.3 years of consulting experience in Canada, USA and Korea. I am from Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.), Canada and I graduated from the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in Geological Engineering in 1995. I also have a Bachelor of Physics from the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). I am registered with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, Canada (APEGGA ) as an EIT. With my career, I left Canada to pursue my engineering major, and other fields, to reach my professional goals.
My ESL teaching experience in Korea has been both to adults and children. I worked for the YBM-E4U Institute in Seoul, Korea from 2004 to 2005 teaching adults. From 2005 to 2007, I worked for Avalon School in Bundang (Migeum Station) teaching elementary and middle school aged children. I can teach all ages, but I prefer not to teach kindergarten / pre-school aged students. The Vice Director of Avalon Institute, Migeum Campus, has agreed to be a work reference for me. I have many other references available on request.
I have a number of years substitute teaching in high/middle school in Canada teaching science (physics, chemistry, geology and astronomy) and English, as well as many years instructing in university physical laboratories and astronomical observatories. I have also worked at a Vision Academy summer camp in downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada during the summer of 2004.
I enjoy writing very much and have written many articles on astronomy for two P.E.I. newspapers (The Guardian and The Eastern Graphic) in the past. I have also written articles for the newspapers on creation and science, and on my cultural experiences in Korea. This past year, while working for YBM, I wrote many of my own lessons to supplement their textbook curriculum. As well, as a professional engineer, I had to write and edit many technical engineering reports. Although engineering report writing is technical, the simpler the sentence structure and vocabulary are, the more user friendly the text is for the reader.
Like most students in university, I wrote many term papers and enjoyed it. Also, I took a technical writing course at university in my engineering program. As well, while working for Kimball Associates in the U.S.A., I took a ¡°Mistake Free Grammar¡¯ up-grading course in 2002. Although I have never taught dedicated writing courses before, I know many writing skills, and have many techniques, that I can pass-on to my students. I have also proof read technical patient documents for a firm in Gangnam, Seoul for a period of one month.
I would prefer to work for a company mostly in an educational/technical - people capacity, do my best, and help society and the company grow and prosper along with me. I have experience in geology and public speaking, as well as writing and teaching. I have good technical, written, computer, organizational and oral skills, as well as a good - people personality. I can work well in a multi-ethical and multicultural environment.
Not being limited to my work experience alone, I am open to doing other things as well and am interested in furthering my studies. I will consider all contract periods of employment.
Any help you could give me in my job search with your organization would be appreciated.
Very Sincerely,
David Yorston
