EDUCATION
I am a recent graduate of the TESOL certification program from United TESOL International College of Teacher Training, Ottawa, Canada. In addition, I have a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia.
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
English as a Second Language Teacher, Berlitz Language School
I have experience teaching English as a Second Language in a classroom environment. I taught mostly business people and government workers between the ages of 24 to 60. I was responsible for teaching Business English, Pronunciation and English grammar. I worked in a busy, business oriented ESL school. This experience has taught me about meeting the needs of beginners all the way to advanced level speakers in a friendly, fun and professional environment.
Special Education Teacher, Upper Canada District School Board
As a special education teacher, I was responsible for designing and implementing modified academic programs for many students. I taught small groups of students between the ages of 6 to 14. I was providing support to students with learning disabilities. This experience has developed my interpersonal, classroom management and planning skills.
Supply Teacher, Ottawa-Carleton District School Board
I have experience teaching in public schools. I have taught students between the ages of 5 to 18 in a number of subjects. I was responsible for teaching well-prepared lessons in an interesting and fun way. While working in the classroom, I maintained a positive and safe environment. This experience has taught me to be flexible when I am teaching, improved my organizational and presentation skills.
Tutor, Tutorial Services of Ontario
I worked as a tutor for children between the ages of 6 to 15. I was responsible for planning interesting and engaging lessons in a number of subject areas. Many of my students had problems in English, especially with their reading and writing skills. This experience has taught me about the importance of making learning enjoyable and meeting the needs of students.
Youth Millennium Project North American Coordinator, University of British Columbia
I worked, as one of the coordinators, on a project to bring youth in every country together in order to improve their communities. I was responsible for getting students between the ages of 11 to 14 involved in this project. I contacted many schools in Canada and the United States to get them to participate. This experience has taught me the importance of working in a team-oriented environment and to develop my communication skills
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
My hobbies and interests include acting, singing, photography, running hiking, cycling, ballroom dancing, poetry and short story writing. I really enjoy travelling, learning new languages and different cultures.
