WORK EXPERIENCE
-
2005 - 2007 Systems Programmer
Computer Task Group, IBM P/I Server RAS Test
Poughkeepsie, NY
The IBM Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) department of 20 members tests all configurations of the P and I Series Server solutions according to chip and function level specifications as well as customer site maintenance procedures. All RAS strategies are meticulously planned and tested to avoid unexpected server outages and costly extended service calls. Efficient and quality-oriented execution and cross-departmental collaboration was mandatory as the systems exiting test were delivered to the customer within 2 weeks. Key Achievements:
Designed and deployed server backbone to decrease technical collaboration times by 3 weeks.
Designed and authored RAS test automation tool to increase system bug exposure from 10 to 20,000 test points per day.
Assisted in discovering the root cause of critical unexpected server outages at customer sites. Solution obtained within 48 hours.
Developed a comprehensive test plan for I/P Series Power6 architecture systems for RAS logic and functions.
Fabricated custom test circuitry to decrease the cost of hardware testing by 4 systems per cycle.

2002 - 2004 Project Leader
Clarkson Open Source Institute, Cluster Computing Project
Potsdam, NY
Research oriented Linux advocate organization focused on student led projects in open source software and philosophy. The 30 member group held weekly meetings and educational seminars as well as 24 hour lock-in programming sessions to complete projects for end of semester demonstrations. Promoted to project leader of the Cluster Computing Project, focusing on cluster technology and implementation research to offer consultation and deploy key findings in the COSI computer lab and other University Departments. Key Achievements:
Designed and deployed a 5 node x86 cluster for COSI. Research produced a white paper in distributed kernel compiling optimizations and a presentation honor at the Society of Industrial Applied Mathematics Conference (SIAM) in Montreal, Canada.
Surplus Sparc systems converged to make a 6 node cluster for Mechanical Engineering Department. Additional computing resources leveraged to gain 10% more simulations. Offered technical consultation for a 64 node super computer.
Designed and implemented a custom-tailored 8 node cluster for graduate level research in the Chemical Engineering Department.
Cluster Computing Project became a wide spread interest in the university and became a continual project attracting talented students in the University.
International Business Machines, Linux Technology Integration Center (LTIC)
Poughkeepsie, NY
Recruited for the internship at IBM's Linux Technology Integration Center (LTIC) focusing on Grid and Autonomic research. Formulated summer project goals and executed research to be presented to the technical and executive members upon program completion. Key Achievements:
Rapidly learned Globus Grid architecture and industry methodologies in 1 month.
Created 6 node cluster and connected to IBM Globus Grid, retaining industry OGSI/OGSA specifications.
Designed and authored one of the first IBM internal applications to verify and stress completed heterogeneous and homogeneous Globus Grid systems written in Java for platform independence.
Installed new local Globus Grid Certificate Authority to replace deprecated global certificate authority.

2000 - 2002 President
Nassau Community College, Super Highway Club
Garden City, NY
Student run, college extracurricular organization focusing computer literacy, research, and Linux advocacy. Conducted meetings and educational seminars to students and faculty. Sustain club membership and execute administrative tasks, including a rewrite of the club constitution and operational guidelines and holding meetings with the college boards for financial tasks. Key Achievements:
Revitalized the organization from 1 active member to over 30 members in 2 years. Remained the leading technology resource for students on campus.
Increased budget grants from $200 to over $5,000 in 2 years and remained the most funded student organization on campus.
Constructed a 3 node computing cluster from surplus systems in various college departments. Presented research to engineering computing lab staff and teaching faculty later deployed on larger, modern systems.
Installed and designed a organizational Internet presence that promoted membership by 90% per year.
-
2000 - 2002 Student Aid
Nassau Community College, Engineering Department
Garden City, NY
Campus computing laboratory provided technical resources to students and classes of the Engineering Department. Solved or referred questions from students and faculty while providing technical support to systems in the laboratory. Assisted in the construction and management of 4 new computing laboratories. Key Achievements:
Implemented a new server backbone to optimize printing and cloning tasks. Optimizations increased led to much quicker prints and systems cloning time decreased from 2 months to 30 minutes.
Deployed new computer monitoring application and employed a Windows Active Directory domain across 80 systems to help enforce computer usage policies.
Authored computer user account management software. Decreased administrative tasks from 2 week to 15 minutes.
