I first met Scott and his younger brother Todd in the green room at American Idol in May 2009. It was top three week of season eight and along with the rest of the eliminated finalists, Scott was back at the show to start rehearsals for the season finale. We made an instant connection and a few seconds after I introduced myself, we felt like we had known each other for years, though I cant explain why. A week later, I saw Scott again, this time the night of the finale results show, at the 19 after-party. has finally broken her silence over the arrest of her ex-fiancé Raffaello Follieri.

The actress had up until now kept schtum about Follieri's arrest over alleged fraud charges, despite being quizzed throughout the summer on promotional tours for her latest movie, Get Smart.

However in an emotional interview with US magazine W, on sale in the States today, Hathaway chose to reveal details of the arrest and how the break-up has taken its toll on her physically and mentally.

'As soon as I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico to do a press tour for Get Smart,' says Hathaway. 'And then I spent a week in shock at a friend's house. And then I had to go back and do more press, and I haven't stopped since.'

Since the scandal broke, the Devil Wears Prada actress has been staying at a friend's apartment in New York, after moving out of the apartment she shared with Follieri, which was searched by police.

'It's a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden,' Hathaway admits. 'But just as suddenly, my friends threw another rug back under me. One said, 'Go stay at my house.' And Steve Carell (her Get Smart co-star) stepped up for me during an interview when someone asked a question [about it]. He said, 'At some point you're going to have to talk about this time in your life. You don't have to do it this week. I'll take care of anything that comes your way.'

'I've been shown such kindness,' says Hathaway. 'Not everyone gets that. A lot of people go through tough times alone.'

Revealing for the first time that the split occurred before the arrest took place, Hathaway told of the moment she was informed of the arrest in a phone call from the FBI, as she stepped off a plane from Australia.

'We were over for a bit. There were conversations afterwards, but the relationship was absolutely done' she explained.

'I was on a flight from Australia coming back' she said, 'So that was a fun call to get upon landing.'

Holding her head in her hands as Letterman asked her if Follieri had ever taken money from her purse, the actress giggled as she cringed her way through the interview.

Onto the future, and the presenter continued with his barrage of questions on her love life, asking her address the rumours of a new man in her life.

'I've been very busy and apparently I've dated Josh Lucas, Brody Jenner - I didn't know who he was - and then of course there's the long-standing rumour that I'm dating Emily Blunt' she joked.

has been announced as the latest brand ambassador for French cosmetics giant Lancôme. The Devil Wears Prada actress will star in print and television advertisements for the company's latest fragrance, which is yet to be named.
